Britannica

Britannica is an online encyclopedia that covers a wide range of topics: history, science, technology, nature, art, money and they even have games and quizzes on their database. This database gives entries written by their authors on the subject. In their “Visual Arts” section they have a subcategory for photography. This source is probably best suited for highschoolers up to adults. Britannica only has a basic search option, there is not an advanced search or additional limiters. There is a faceted search on the home page at the top that lists the topics I mentioned before (history, science, technology, etc). As for the general coverage dates I am not sure however the entry that I am using for this example was updated September 27th, 2024. It is a very full entry that has hyperlinks throughout to continue finding more information. Next to the entry title there are three dots that if you click will give you additional “External Websites” which will give you further resources to explore. There are no peer-reviewed articles included because the entries are written by their authors. There are also no mechanisms to be able to sort the material by date or relevance. The user can print, cite or share the resource to facebook or X (Twitter) directly from the entry but there is not a temporary folder the user may utilize on the free page. I found this resource because I had previous knowledge of Britannica through other assignments we have completed this semester.
